About Us

Carleton Theatre Group first came together in 1946 and initially took to the stage performing a series of One Act plays. In 1949 they staged their first full length play, “Quiet Wedding”. This production was the first of many and the group has continued to flourish for 60 years, staging over 150 productions. Initially performances took place at the local parish hall, until 1958 when Carleton Community Centre became its venue. It has remained so ever since. We celebrated our 60th anniversary by hosting a Ceilidh, Summer Party and Shakespearean Workshop. Our 60th anniversary celebrations culminated in our performing the period play “Tom Jones”, complete with a large cast of over 20 people, wonderful costumes and a multi-level stage!

One of the first members, Eleanor Mullis, is still an active member of the group and in July 2008 won the DIVA ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Award. The previous year we were delighted to discover that the group has also been nominated for the Diva ‘Best Voluntary Arts Group’ of the year award.
